A story is told of two African youths that went to
meet a seer in the bid to know what the future holds for them. On reaching
there, they tendered their request and after some incantations, the seer is
said to one that he would end up a royalty, so wealthy and influential that the
entire society will make him their king. To the other, he predicted a live of a
slave with nothing to show forth.
The first man went home with so much joy while the
other in great agony picked up his hoe and cutlass and headed into the thick
forest with the vow never to return until his fortune changed. Many years went
by and the young man never returned. Family members, after so much search gave
up on him and went on with their lives.
In the fullness of time, the village was hit by a
great famine and there was no one to proffer solution. The situation worsened
that people hard had to travel miles in search of food. One day, a hunter, in
desperate search for a little catch, journeyed deep down into the thick forest and
suddenly stumbled across a very gigantic plantation with a food bank so big
that it could feed the entire present day Europe for days. Then suddenly
appeared the owner of this mighty farm, the same young man that disappeared
into the forest years ago with just a hoe and a cutlass. After negotiating terms
of trade, the hunter who joyfully bought some food from him and rushed back to
the village to break the good news. So the entire village began to buy food
from this man.
After some time, the famine persisted and the
community ran out of money and so the elders took a turning point decision-
they asked the young man to become their king while they became his subjects
since only he had the capacity to sustain the communities. He accepted the
offer.
One day, someone came crying in the palace, begging
to see the new King and on sight, it was his old friend whom the seer had
favoured to be king. He looked so unkempt. He had wasted his youthful life in
idleness and pride believing that the prophesy of the seer was a guaranty. Now
here he was begging the King to become one of his slaves.
Dear friends, prophecy is not a guaranty to reality.
The power to change our world lies with us but the big question is how prepared
are we?
We, in GLIFE Foundation International believe that
the future of Africa is in the hands of the today’s African youth. For us, what
Africa is today is a product of what the African youth of yesterday made it to
be and what it will be tomorrow will be determined by what the African youth of
today will make it. As African youths of today, we will definitely take over
someday but how well we will fare is a function of how well we prepare today.
If you believe in this African reality, then we
specially invite you to GENERATION X LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2015.
